I had the pleasure of going to the Africa Fashion Week Show in Barcelona this year and it was such a great time! As you know, I travel to Africa as often as I can, my hubby is from South Africa and I have completely fallen in love with the culture and fashion.
Africa Fashion Week Barcelona is an extension of what already exists in fashion capitals like Paris, LA, Toronto, London & Amsterdam. The focus which is to bring more light to African fashion designers and art creators.
I attended on Sunday evening where five designers were showing off their latest (and some, their first) collections. Papyvalerie, Dominique Virassamy, Afrikanus by Rui Lopes, Kwame Koranteng & Vanelse.
My favorite fashion show would have to be the last two Kwame Koranteng & Vanelse. Kwame Korateng focused mainly on elegant suits which had pieces of African textile on the cuffs or sleeves. Small details which made a regular suit have a bit of a colorful flair.
Vanelse’s collection was probably my favorite. It was a very feminine collection, colorful and flattering. The type of look any woman, no matter what shape or size, could pull off. The designs were completely wearable straight from the runway to your closet. The designer knew exactly which curve to extenuate. I Loved it!
